Zagreb - A big step forward in congress tourism

Zagreb’s position on the world map of congress tourism is rising. This is best shown through data of the International Congress and Convention Association, by which the main Croatian city has gone from 171st to 79th place on the list of 309 cities as world congress destinations. According to this data, Zagreb holds an even better, 42nd position, on the European list, by the number of organized conventions last year among 159 European convention destinations.

Overall, in the congress and convention sense, Croatia is in 40th place in the world, with 50 international meetings and Zagreb hold the first place in Croatia with 23. The Capital city of Croatia has recently been confirmed as the host city of the annual European Cities Marketing (ECM) 2012 convention. This is an organisation that brings together European tourist boards and congress offices.

ICCA was founded in 1963 by a group of tourism agencies and is today one of the most important international organisations on the market of the congress industry. It represents an association of professionals who deal in organizing international conventions and events. It has around 900 members from 86 countries.
