Opatija - Hotel Milenij gets new fascilities

Hotel Milenij in Opatija has begun enriching its facilities. This five-star hotel has started the renovation and expansion of the cafe Wagner which will receive an exclusive champagne & wine bar with a wide selection of wines. By extending the café`s terrace the hotel will also receive a new VIP room which will suit the needs and tastes of demanding guests. The interior of the hotel i.e. the rooms in the main villa of the hotel Milenij will also be refreshed and adapted.

The Hotel Milenij, the most luxurious hotel in Opatija, located in the heart of the city was opened in early 2000. Milenij draws its tradition from the Austro-Hungarian times when the villa, which was converted into a hotel, served as a favorite destination for famous European royalty and many of the former aristocracy.

The first, southernmost part of the Hotel Milenij was built in 1836 as a luxury villa of Benedict Hasslinger, and was originally known as „Hasslinger” which later changed to „Al Mare”. The villa flourished in 1898 with the construction of a terrace, which soon became a famous café. During the Kingdom of Italy it was called Cafe Principe Umberto in honor of Prince Umberto, who was once a guest there. Through the years the villa experienced many changes. 1908 is significant because the then famous architect Carl Seidl designed the old part of today's Hotel Milenij as an upgrade of the existing villa. Its adaptation finished in 1910 when an entirely new building was constructed that had little similarity to the previous one. In 1924, during the final phase of the hotel construction, the ballroom was reconstructed and today it contains the restaurant „Argonauti”. The walls of the hall were painted by the Viennese painter Karl Ludwig Hassman, and Greek mythology served as the theme.
